The cause of conflict can arise everywhere and anywhere due to all of us having our own interests, personalities, thought processes and reactions. It is, of course, wise to question the situation, analyse and resolve the problem rather than allowing the conflict to continue.

With the use of conflict management, certain strategies can be implemented to eliminate and resolve negative aspects of the conflict, increase the positive factors of conflict and enhance performance within the working environment.

The purpose of conflict management is to teach conflict resolution skills, such as managing conflict, self-awareness about the different formats of conflict and produce effective communication while in conflict with a team member. These skills assist teams in establishing a positive outcome from conflict and overall, reducing conflict on a whole.

Accommodating, Avoiding, Collaborating, Competing and Compromising are key approaches when trying to resolve a conflict. These key concepts are important to digest and be aware of so that you and employees can be aware of the spiralling behaviour and will be able to effectively notice these events coming into view.

Conflict resolution skills:

Skills are important when in the process of resolving conflict and the following list are the most popular and are continuingly used; Assertiveness, Active listening skills, Empathy, Mediation and creative problem-solving. By analysing and implementing these factors into conflict, you will be able to break away at the conflict that has arisen and reduce the stress and aggression of the situation.

It is important to question the situation, assess and analyse, conclude, resolve and move forward with conflict within the workplace to improve morale and efficiency within the team. The more effective the conflict management is, then it is less likely that conflict will appear again on that scale.
