How to become a Site Supervisor.
Are you interested in progressing in your career in construction? If you want to take the next step up the ladder into a management role then the Site Supervisor Safety Training qualification is what you need. The SSSTS course is a nationally recognised safety qualification that is now a requirement by most major contractors for supervisors and managers working on site.
In today’s post, we’ll be looking at the main responsibilities of a site supervisor and which qualification is required for the role.
So what is the role of a Construction Site Supervisor?
As the title suggests, a site supervisor is responsible for supervising the construction site project and the workforce. This role also involves:
- Staff safety management
- Management of workers and delegating jobs
- Regular inspections of the site
- Manage safety hazards
- Ensure all workers on site adhere to the health and safety rules and processes
Site Supervisor and Site Manager – What’s the difference?
A Site Supervisor and Site Manager may seem like similar roles, however, there are a few key differences between the two. A Site Supervisor generally supervises the workers to ensure they are working safely and to the health and safety standards. They are also involved in identifying potential safety hazards on-site and finding ways to eliminate the risks.
A Site Manager’s role is to ensure a construction project is completed within the allocated time frame and budgets. You may hear alternative job titles for Site Managers such as construction manager, site agent and also project manager.
How to become a Site Supervisor
Practical experience is important for construction workers to progress. One of the ways you can get the experience is by work shadowing a Site Supervisor, taking on additional responsibilities, and being eager to learn and understand the role of a supervisor.
Although it’s great to get practical experience, you will need to complete the correct level of training and qualifications to take the next step into a Site Supervisor role.
What qualifications would I need to become a Site Supervisor?
To become a site supervisor at a construction site, you will need to have taken the CITB Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS).
